How consumers dispose of personal information plays a huge role in the security of their identity. Since dumpster diving is still a popular crime, putting sensitive material in the trash or recycle bin exposes people to fraud too easily. The solution: shred documents before tossing them. This extra step is more than worth the protection it affords vital information.
Endorsing the identity theft prevention benefits of shredding, EZShield helped sponsor the Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland’s Shred Day on April 26, 2014. Along with a handful of other local business, EZShield employees greeted a few thousand attendees at the White Marsh and Timonium shred locations.
Cars lined up more than hour before Shred Day commenced. In fact, the event was so well attended at both locations that the seven trucks collecting the shredded material were full by 11:30 a.m.
EZShield Senior Resolution Specialist Cortney Laffoon looks forward to volunteering at this event every year. She said, “I like to be on the front line, helping unload the boxes for the shredder, and talking with people. Attendees are always so appreciative of the event and the awareness it brings to the risk of identity theft.”
One attendee expressed her appreciation saying, “Thank you for doing this for the community. You guys are doing a great service.”
EZShield is proud to contribute time and resources to BBB Shred Day and help people learn more about how to protect their personal information.
Educating consumers is such an important aspect of identity protection that EZShield created a website dedicated to the effort: FightingIdentityCrimes.com.
